New 76ers Rumors on Potential Roster Moves to Fit KCP After LeBron James' Contract in NBA FA

As the Philadelphia 76ers make additional moves to fill out their roster with LeBron James coming in, Johni Broome or Jabari Walker could be on their way out.

Per NBA insider Jake Fischer, Broome is being shopped around in trade talks right now as the Sixers look to make room for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Other options being explored by the 76ers front office is waiving and stretching the remainder of Broome's rookie contract if no trade materializes, or waiving Walker even though Fischer noted the team would "prefer" to keep him if possible.

Fischer added that rival teams would require additional "sweeteners" to take Broome that could end up being "steeper" than the 76ers want to pay in a trade.

Caldwell-Pope agreed to a contract buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies and intends to sign a one-year deal for the veteran minimum with the Sixers when he clears waivers.

The move will reunite Caldwell-Pope and James, who played three seasons together with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2018 to '21.

However, before the Sixers can sign anyone else, they have to clear a roster spot and shed some salary because they are hard-capped at the first apron.

Broome, the 35th overall pick in the 2025 draft, has two guaranteed years and $4.7 million remaining on his rookie deal. Walker is owed $2.6 million in 2026-27, but only $250,000 is guaranteed until Jan. 10 when it becomes fully guaranteed.

Caldwell-Pope spent the entire 2025-26 season with Memphis. He averaged 8.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in 51 appearances.
