KCP Reportedly Set to Join 76ers After LeBron James' Contract, Updated Roster, Salary Cap

Veteran guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is reportedly headed to the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Caldwell-Pope plans to sign a one-year deal worth $3.9 million with Philadelphia upon clearing waivers after reaching a contract buyout agreement with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Derek Bodner of PHLY Sports and ESPN's Bobby Marks noted that Caldwell-Pope's cap hit is prorated down to just over $2.4 million, meaning that the 76ers will need to make additional moves to add him and stay under the first apron hard cap.

The 76ers have been active in free agency this week, agreeing to a two-year contract worth $8 million with LeBron James on Friday.

Caldwell-Pope's desire to join the 76ers has been evident, as NBA insider Chris Haynes previously reported that the 33-year-old intended to sign with Philadelphia following his buyout.

He already has experience playing alongside James, as the pair won a championship together with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

Caldwell-Pope also helped the Denver Nuggets win the NBA Finals in 2023.

He's carved out a role on several teams throughout his 13-year career due to his defensive activity and three-point accuracy, although he struggled in both areas during his 2025-26 campaign on the Grizzlies while he dealt with a finger injury.

Caldwell-Pope averaged 8.4 points, 2.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 41.0 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from three-point territory last season.

It's also worth noting that he's only connected on 33.3 percent of his triples over the past two years combined.

Still, Caldwell-Pope could look more like his former self following a change of scenery. After all, he's connected on 36.5 percent of his three-pointers while attempting 4.5 long-range shots per game throughout his career.

His efficiency may also increase while playing off ball-handlers including James, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in Philadelphia next season.
