Ole Miss HC Reveals Warning to Chambliss, Lacy over Potentially Leaving with Lane Kiffin for LSU

New Ole Miss head coach Pete Golden had a unique pitch to Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy while trying to convince them to remain at the school this offseason rather than following Lane Kiffin to LSU.

"Football's gonna end. What are you going to use? You gotta use an alumni base to be able to get you a job. Where are you gonna bring your kids to? What jersey are they wearing? Y'all two created a legacy in one season that's gonna be hard for anybody to overtake, and for what's going on now, for Coach Kiffin to leave—go Google Lane Kiffin," Golden told reporters while recounting what he said to the pair. "I had them both do it in my office. Google Lane Kiffin, the dude they'd have built a statue of here three days ago. Google his name right now. They wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire. They'll do the same thing to y'all two [if you leave]. But if you come out and say I'm going to continue to build on the legacy I've created, what that's going to do for you and this fan base and the alumni for the rest of your life, I don't give a s--t where you go or what they pay you, you'll never amount to that much."

Kiffin is indeed public enemy No. 1 in Oxford, though Golden said he's maintained a relationship with the departed coach.

"I have no ill will toward Coach Kiffin," he told reporters. "He texts me on a regular basis. There's certain things that we'll talk about, and there's certain things that we don't talk about."

As for Chambliss and Lacy, getting the pair back was vital.

The former was brilliant last season, throwing for 3,937 yards, 22 touchdowns and just three interceptions while completing 66.1 percent of his passes and rushing for 527 yards and five scores. The 23-year-old was a revelation, playing a crucial role in the team's run to the College Football Playoff.

Lacy, meanwhile, gave him a dynamic counterpart in the backfield. The 20-year-old rushed for 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns, adding 29 catches for 177 yards.

With that duo back, Ole Miss has a real chance to repeat as CFP participants. They might have had that same chance at LSU as well, though they certainly wouldn't have been afforded a warm welcome back to Oxford.
