New Pistons Rumors on Jalen Duren Contract Negotiations Reveal Updated Timeline for Deal

There isn't much traction in contract discussions between the Detroit Pistons and Jalen Duren in restricted free agency, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

"I just talked to someone who said that negotiations on Jalen Duren are at a standstill right now," Shelburne reported during a Tuesday appearance on NBA Today. "Could take deep into August, could take quite a while and I think that's because teams that tried to get Jalen Duren, the Lakers were one of the teams that pursued him, they just had a sense that Detroit was gonna match anything that was offered to him."

"They can't afford to lose him and yet it's going to take a long time because they can't agree on what his value is and how you use that value in building the team," she added.

Duren is eligible to sign a five-year contract worth $287.1 million, but the Pistons may be hesitant to hand him a large deal given his playoff struggles.

After averaging 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 65.0 percent from the field during the regular season, he recorded 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game on 51.4 percent shooting in the postseason.

While the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings were linked to Duren earlier in the offseason, Detroit seems to be willing to match any offer that he receives as a restricted free agent.

There still appear to be several hurdles for Duren and the Pistons to overcome in negotiations, though.
