Kylian Mbappe Revealed as FC 27 Ultimate Edition Cover Star After Winning World Cup Golden Boot
EA Sports announced Tuesday that Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé is returning to the cover of its annual world football video game series.
Fresh off winning the 2026 World Cup's Golden Boot with France, Mbappé will be the main cover athlete for the fourth time, the first since EA made the rebrand from FIFA to EA FC.
He previously graced the covers of FIFA 21, 22 and 23, the last of which he starred alongside Sam Kerr on the Ultimate Edition version.
Mbappé had another prolific club season in 2025-26. He finished with 25 goals and five assists in La Liga and added another 15 goals in the Champions League.
However, his individual contributions were overshadowed by Real Madrid's distant second-place finish behind Barcelona and an exit in the Champions League quarterfinals.
Madrid signed Mbappé to an already star-studded attack in order to basically win every single trophy. Zero domestic or continental titles across two seasons isn't the return the club envisioned.
Mbappé reminded everyone of his brilliance during the World Cup. He scored 10 goals and assisted on four more across France's eight matches. Despite only being 27, he already has more goals all time (22) than any other player. He and Argentina's Lionel Messi both passed Germany legend Miroslav Klose.
EA Sports will have decided on its FC 27 cover well before the World Cup got underway. Settling on Mbappé only looks smarter after the summer he had.
