Spain's immaculate two-year run has culminated in the team's second FIFA World Cup title.

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in Sunday's World Cup final to win its first title since 2010, extending the team's unbeaten streak to a record 38 straight matches. Spain hasn't lost an international match in regulation since March 2024.

Ferran Torres scored the game-winning goal in the 106th minute to secure the win, which overshadowed an incredible effort from Argentina's Emiliano Martínez, who set a new World Cup final record with 11 saves. Spain's Unai Simón notched his seventh shutout of the World Cup. Torres received the Man of the Match Award.

The win ended Argentina's bid to become the third team in history to win back-to-back World Cup tournaments. Instead, Spain broke a tie with Italy for the longest unbeaten streak in soccer history.

Spain opened with an early attack that allowed 19-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal to fire at the net, but Martínez was there for the save.

The match got a little chippy as both squads struggled to find a rhythm. Argentina's Lisandro Martínez picked up a yellow card due to a late tackle.

Still, Spain stayed on the attack, with Mikel Oyarzabal sending a shot at the net that Emi Martínez saved. Marc Cucurella also had an attempt that went wide of the net. Argentina finished the entire first half without taking a single shot.

The second half started with more of the same. Argentina struggled to maintain possession as Spain put relentless pressure on the net. Despite Spain firing shots at the net, Emi Martínez continued his incredible effort with save after save.

With four minutes of stoppage time added, Argentina tried to pick up some momentum, but that was halted when Enzo Fernández incurred a second yellow card in the 93rd minute, putting the defending champs at a one-man disadvantage for the rest of the match.

Spain earned a free kick toward the end of regulation, but Martinez blocked Yamal's shot for his 10th save of the day to force extra time.

Spain appeared to go ahead when Nico Williams found the net after a wild sequence, but a foul was called in the box.

At the start of the second half of extra time, Torres corralled a rebound and fired the ball to the back of the net to take the lead.

Lionel Messi was quiet all day, but he tried to fire a shot from the right corner that went over the net. He also had one that went off the face of Mikel Merino.

Argentina upped the pressure and had multiple chances at the net, but Spain managed to avoid a disaster.

After an incredibly exciting World Cup tournament, Spain will go home with bragging rights and a new trophy following Sunday's win.
