Darryn Peterson Updates Health Status Amid Jazz Summer League After Injuries at Kansas

Julia StumbaughJul 17, 2026

Utah Jazz rookie Darryn Peterson told ESPN's Malika Andrews he felt "100 percent" healthy while playing his first three Summer League games this month in Las Vegas.

"I haven't played a game since March, so to be able to go out there and compete with these guys is something I wanted to do," Peterson said in a Friday appearance on ESPN's NBA Today. "And I had a ton of fun doing it."

Peterson continued: "I'm feeling healthy, and I'm feeling like I'm back to being 100 percent, so that makes it fun for me that I can go out there and give it my 100 percent every time."

Peterson is being held out of the Jazz's Friday night Summer League matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, per KSL Sports' Ben Anderson.

Prior to being sidelined he had averaged 20.7 points on 30.8 percent shooting from the field and 23.1 percent shooting from deep through three games in Vegas.

The No. 2 pick of the 2026 NBA draft also added four rebounds, 4.7 assists, one steal and 1.3 blocks per game to his Summer League statline.

His performances ranged from a strong Summer League debut during which he scored a game-high 28 points against the Atlanta Hawks to a 15-point outing against the San Antonio Spurs in his third game.

Peterson has overall been distributing the ball more than when averaging 1.6 assists per game at Kansas.

When asked if he felt his jump in assists indicated he is the Jazz's point guard of the future, Peterson told Andrews he sees himself as more of a combo option alongside Keyonte George.

Peterson has also been consistently available for the Jazz after missing extended time during his freshman college season due to cramping issues.

The Jazz will hope what Peterson will continue being unaffected by what he said were health issues due to high doses of creatine as he prepares to make his regular-season NBA debut this fall.
