New LeBron James Rumors Reveal 3 Landing Spots Have Become 'Focus' After Lakers Exit
Five teams "remain in the mix" to sign star free agent LeBron James, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday.
The Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves are in the running for James, according to Charania.
"The feel is that those five teams remain in the mix, but a focus on Cleveland, Miami and Philadelphia," Charania said Tuesday.
Charania initially reported June 30 that James had informed the Lakers he would be departing from the franchise in free agency.
ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported last week team executives were sending voice memos to James through his agent Rich Paul, and that the belief was James had "no timetable" for a decision.
James is also reaching out and speaking to players on interested teams, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
Charania reported Tuesday James' decision could be made "any day, any week now."
James has emphasized his desire to play for a title in what could be his final NBA season, so at least part of each team's pitch likely has to do with their championship odds next season.
The Heat made some major moves this offseason by bringing in Giannis Antetokounmpo to play with Bam Adebayo. The Golden State Warriors are expected to bring back Draymond Green, who has been pitching James on joining the team while the two were together in Puerto Rico, to play with Stephen Curry.
The Sixers added former Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown to a rotation led by Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. The Cavs are bringing back Donovan Mitchell, James Harden and Evan Mobley, while the Timberwolves are retooling around Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert after trading Julius Randle.
Any of these five reported finalists to sign James could also be considering trading for his son, Lakers guard Bronny James.
Front Office Sports' Alex Schiffer reported Tuesday that multiple front offices say they have discussed combining signing LeBron with acquiring Bronny, who is owed a guaranteed $2.3 million for next season.
