New LeBron James Rumors on Star's Talks With Players From Potential Landing Spots Amid Cavs Buzz

While LeBron James is taking his time to decide his next landing spot in free agency, it sounds like he's doing his due diligence as he explores his options.

During Tuesday's episode of The Hoop Collective, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported that rather than relying on his representatives to speak to team executives, James "is reaching out and talking to players on some of these teams, and they report back to their GM or coach like, 'Hey, LeBron called.'"

Front Office Sports' Alex Schiffer previously reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers are favored by some to sign James.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported last week that teams have been communicating with James by sending voice notes to his agent, Rich Paul. James directly reaching out to players on his own could signify that he's inching closer to making a decision.

While the Cavs appear to be the frontrunners to land James, other teams haven't been deterred in their pursuit of the 41-year-old. NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Tuesday that the Golden State Warriors "appear determined to stay in it until the end," and they aren't alone.

"The same is presumed true about Miami and Philadelphia as James continues to weigh a return to the East with a greater willingness than many around the league anticipated before free agency began," Stein stated.

Stein added that the Minnesota Timberwolves are also in the mix, with head coach Chris Finch telling him that James and Paul have "made everybody feel like they genuinely have an opportunity."

James spent the last eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. The 2026-27 season will be his 24th in the NBA, and it's clear that he wants to make the right decision for what could be his final year in the league.
