Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and England punched their ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals with a hard-fought 2-1 extra-time victory over Erling Haaland and Norway on Saturday.

Bellingham, who scored both England goals, helped lead the Three Lions to their first FIFA World Cup semifinal appearance since 2018 and the fourth in the nation's history as they continued to look for their first title since 1966.

On the other side, Haaland's streak of 14 consecutive matches with a goal came to an end in Miami, ending a prolific run in which he scored 27 times.

Despite the defeat, Norway's tournament marked a historic achievement. Making its first World Cup appearance in 28 years, Norway matched the deepest run in team history by reaching the quarterfinals, equaling its finishes in 1938 and 1998.

Norway broke through in the 36th minute when Andreas Schjelderup curled a shot off the post and into the net.

Norway carried that momentum through the closing stages of the first half but missed a golden opportunity to double its lead. A 2-on-1 break in the 44th minute was snuffed out by England defender John Stones, who recovered to force a stop and keep the deficit at one.

England found its response deep into first-half stoppage time as Bellingham danced past two defenders before burying the equalizer to send the sides into the break level.

Kane appeared to put England in front just minutes later, but the goal was waved off after an offside call erased the would-be go-ahead score.

Norway held a slight edge in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting England 5-4 and putting three shots on target compared with England's two.

Norway appeared to reclaim the lead in the 56th minute when Torbjorn Heggem found the back of the net off a corner kick, but a VAR review overturned the goal after Haaland was ruled to have committed a pushing foul in the buildup.

Norway's ensuing corner failed to produce the same result, leaving the match deadlocked at 1-1.

A frantic finish to regulation featured end-to-end chances for both teams, but neither side could deliver the breakthrough, forcing the tightly contested quarterfinal into extra time.

England seized the momentum almost immediately in extra time. After the Norwegian goalkeeper blocked away the initial effort, Bellingham was first to the loose ball, slotting home his second goal of the match in the 93rd minute to put England ahead 2-1.

England's second goal stood as the match-winner through the final whistle, sending the Three Lions into the semifinals after Haaland was substituted in the second half of extra time.

They will face the winner of Lionel Messi and Argentina's quarterfinal against Switzerland on Wednesday in Atlanta with a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on the line.
