That's the highest price ever paid for a card from Panini's comic book-style Kaboom! series, according to cllct. The previous record was set at $1.35 million in a private sale of a Cristiano Ronaldo Kaboom! card earlier this yer.
The highest price ever paid for a Wembanyama trading card stands at $5.11 million in a private sale conducted in May, per ESPN's Dan Hajducky.
That 1-of-1 numbered 2023-24 Panini Prizm Black parallel sold in a private Fanatics Collect sale, Hajducky reported.
Friday's sale represents the second-highest price ever paid for a Wembanyama card, as well as the highest price paid at public auction, per Hajducky.
Wembanyama led the NBA in blocks for a third straight season on his way to his first Defensive Player of the Year title in 2026.
The record sale of his Kaboom! card comes the same day ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wembanyama had agreed to a five-year, $252 million max rookie-scale contract extension with the Spurs.
