Recap
France's Dominance Continues
A French title is starting to feel more and more inevitable.
Led by goals from Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé, France disposed of Morocco with little issue, winning 2-0.
The French held just 48 percent of possession but had a 3.04-0.14 edge in expected goals and outshot Morocco 22-5 (8-1 on goal). The two sides were even on corners with five apiece.
Quite simply, it was pure domination, and came against a Moroccan team that has been excellent at the World Cup. Morocco drew against Brazil in the Group Stage, eliminated the Netherlands on penalties in the Round of 32 and destroyed Canada in the Round of 16 by a 3-0 margin. This was a very good team.
But France is making everybody they face look vastly inferior. The talent is immense, but the French are living up to it. At this point, failing to win the World Cup would be a major surprise—and a disappointment.
