Lionel Messi and Argentina advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 3-2 comeback win over Egypt on Tuesday.

Despite trailing 2-0 in the 78th minute, Argentina picked up a pair of late goals to level the score before Enzo Fernández found the back of the net in stoppage time to help his team emerge victorious.

Lionel Scaloni, Argentina's manager, praised his team's perseverance in the contest.

The 39-year-old now has eight goals in the 2026 World Cup, leading the race for the Golden Boot.

Messi also has 21 career goals in the tournament after Tuesday's action, extending his own all-time record.

Argentina will now face Switzerland in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
