USMNT vs. Belgium Makes USA TV Viewership History in 2026 FIFA World Cup
The United States' match against Belgium in the Round of 16 on Monday made viewership history.
Per Fox Sports, the match drew 30 million viewers, making it the most-watched soccer telecast in U.S. history. It had a peak audience of 36.895 million viewers between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. ET.
Unfortunately for fans of the USMNT who tuned in on Monday, it wasn't the outcome they were hoping for as Belgium won 4-1.
The United States was firmly in it through the first half, trailing by just a goal at the break, but things quickly changed. Belgium scored in the 57th minute after a blunder from the U.S. in goal.
The United States seemed to never fully regain its composure after Belgium's third goal of the night, and a fourth goal from Belgium sealed the deal in stoppage time.
The USMNT came into the tournament with high hopes as it boasted one of its most talented rosters ever, but it still wasn't enough to make it past the Round of 16 once again.
Still, the high viewership is an indication that American fans are engaged with soccer and the USMNT. The United States can only hope to put together a better showing in 2030.
