Updated World Cup 2026 Bracket, Odds and Schedule After Saturday's Round of 16 Results

The 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals are beginning to come into focus.

Morocco became the first team to advance past the Round of 16 with a 2-0 win over Canada on Saturday in Houston.

Kylian Mbappé and France later defeated Paraguay in Philadelphia to earn the chance to play Morocco in the quarterfinals.

Morocco 3, Canada 0

Azzedine Ounahi scored a brace and Yassine Bounou made three saves to help send Morocco to the quarterfinals with a shutout victory over Canada.

The two teams played through a tense first half which featured six yellow cards and just five total shots.

According to OptaJack, that's the first time since at least 1966 the first half of a World Cup match has involved more bookings than shots.

Morocco opened scoring early in the second half after the game's seventh yellow card went to Canada's Luc de Fougerolles.

Achraf Hakimi sent the free kick to Ounahi, who scored the opening goal of the match into the bottom right corner of Canada's net.

Bounou made a diving save to keep out a shot from Canada's Tajon Buchanan and maintain Morocco's lead late in the second half.

Minutes later, Ounahi extended Morocco's advantage with his second goal of the match.

Ounahi almost assisted on Morocco's third goal of the game late in regulation, but Soufiane Rahimi's attempt bounced off Canada's crossbar.

Rahimi converted on his next attempt late in stoppage time to close out Morocco's win.

Canada is the first of the three host nations to go home, while Morocco will advance to take on either France.

France 1, Paraguay 0

Mbappé scored his 19th career World Cup goal as France advanced to the quarterfinals with a win over Paraguay.

France largely dominated possession but struggled to convert on scoring chances early in a physical matchup in Philadelphia.

France gained a scoring opportunity on a free kick in the 36th minute only to see Paraguay clear.

Mbappé got the ball on a stretch pass from French goaltender Mike Maignan early in the second half, but was unable to record a shot before Paraguay won the ball back.

Minutes later, France's Kouadio Koné got a long-range shot on net that was punched aside as one of four saves made by Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill.

France finally broke through after the team was awarded a penalty kick in the 70th minute. Mbappé scored to the lower right to put France in the lead.

Maignan turned aside Paraguay's lone shot on goal in the 90th minute in order to preserve the shutout.

France will now advance to play Morocco. The two teams will meet with a semifinal berth on the line Thursday in Foxborough, New England.
