LeBron James' Decision Timeline Updated by Rich Paul After Revealing Top NBA Landing Spots
Anyone refreshing their social media feeds hoping to get news of LeBron James' next team can take a break because it sounds like it might take awhile.
James' agent, Rich Paul, told Mark Medina of Forbes that it's unlikely a decision "happens anytime soon" while the future Hall of Famer continues to evaluate his options:
"I don't think it'll be the next few days. ... This is the first time he's making a decision that is truly for him. When he left Cleveland [in 2010 for Miami], he had to win a ring. When he came back [in 2014], he had to deliver on the promise. This is at this stage where he can decide what he wants to do and how he wants to do it."

This comes after Paul outlined on the Game Over podcast he hosts with Max Kellerman the many teams that James is considering playing for next season.
That group includes the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks.
Medina noted one league executive expects James will eventually sign with the Warriors because they can give him the non-taxpayer midlevel exception of $15 million, plus he carries a high level of respect for Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
The Sixers made themselves a late entrant into the discussion after their surprise acquisition of Jaylen Brown in a trade with Boston. Minnesota seems prepared to make an aggressive push to get James.
Per The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski, the T-Wolves have the "full belief" they are in the mix for James and have "ramped up" their efforts to sign him by pitching him on playing with Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, Jaden McDaniels and LaMelo Ball.
Part of Minnesota's pitch, according to Krawczynski, will also be about selling James on being the missing piece to help the franchise win its first-ever NBA title and "the biggest possible statement he could make in the long-running greatest player of all time debate between him and Michael Jordan."
Teams like the Heat and Cavs can sell James on a chance to compete for a title with good cores around him, as well as organizational familiarity.
The Spurs, Knicks and Celtics are ready-made title contenders. The Nuggets would be a partnership with Nikola Jokić in a pairing of arguably the players with the two best basketball IQs and boosting their depth.
Dallas is an outlier simply because the roster doesn't look like its ready to contend for a title on paper, but if Cooper Flagg ascends to become a top-10 player in his second season, the ceiling looks very different.
All of these options make sense on some level, but James is going to his due diligence before we get any answer. This could end being the latest he has ever decided on a new team in free agency.
The longest stint for James as a free agent came in 2014 when he announced he was going back to Cleveland on July 11.
James is picking a new team for the first time since 2018 when he joined the Los Angeles Lakers. His eight-year stint with the Lakers marks his longest continuous run with a single franchise in his NBA career.
