New LeBron James Rumors Reveal 76ers as Landing Spot After Blockbuster Jaylen Brown Trade
A superteam could be forming in Philadelphia.
Per The Athletic's Tony Jones, the 76ers are among the teams that have expressed interest in star free agent LeBron James. The report comes hours after the Sixers traded Paul George and picks to Boston in return for star forward Jaylen Brown.
James informed the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday that he would not be returning for the 2026-27 campaign, ending his eight-year run with the team.
The blockbuster trade for Brown immediately makes the Sixers a championship contender, as he'll pair up with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and a solid group of role players.
Add James, who is still an All-Star caliber player, to the mix, and it's hard to imagine anyone beating Philadelphia.
But getting James to the City of Brotherly Love might not be easy.
Multiple reports have indicated that the top landing spots for James early in the offseason are the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat. Each of those teams would also be appealing to James in different ways.
In Golden State, he could team up with former rivals Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. He'd also be close to his home in Southern California while getting to play for a team that can compete.
Cleveland would give him the opportunity to return to his original team and be close to his hometown of Akron. It would be a storybook ending to his legendary career, and the Cavs also have a competitive roster.
Playing in Miami would allow him to play for another one of his former teams, this time alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.
The Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves are also reportedly known to have interest in the four-time MVP.
