Canada vs. Morocco Top Storylines, Odds, Live Stream for World Cup 2026

Joe TanseyJul 3, 2026

Canada is the first of the three co-hosts at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to attempt to reach the quarterfinals.

Unlike the United States and Mexico, Canada will not be on home soil on Saturday.

Jesse Marsch's side faces Morocco at NRG Stadium in Houston. Canada lost its home-field advantage in the bracket when it finished second in Group B.

Morocco comes into the match as the clear favorite after its run to the semifinals four years ago.

Morocco won't have the advantage in rest because it played a day later than Canada and went into penalty kicks against the Netherlands.

Canada might be able to take advantage of the rest gap, but if it does, it would be in the first half.

Canada Could Potentially Take Advantage of Edge in Rest

South Africa v Canada: Round Of 32 - FIFA World Cup 2026

Canada doesn't have a home-field advantage to rely on in Houston.

But it does have a rest edge compared to Morocco.

Canada played the opening game of the round of 32 on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, while Morocco played Monday night in Monterrey.

Morocco also played 120 minutes and went to penalties against the Netherlands, a much tougher opponent than South Africa, who Canada beat 1-0 in regulation.

The rest advantage does mean something, but Canada has to take advantage of it in the first half.

If the Canadians are fresher and the Moroccans are working into the game, the Group B runner-up needs to start fast behind Jonathan David.

Canada is going up against a defense that did have a slow start against Haiti in the group stage. Morocco conceded twice in the first half before it came back to win.

A fast start was always going to be imperative for Jesse Marsch's side regardless of opponent, but in this case especially, Canada needs a really good first 30 minutes to potentially score and put Morocco under pressure.

Morocco Needs To Rely on Knockout Round Experience

Netherlands v Morocco: Round Of 32 - FIFA World Cup 2026

Morocco has the edge in World Cup knockout-round experience.

Canada won its first-ever knockout-round game on Sunday, while Morocco was a semifinalist in 2022.

Morocco's path to the semifinals four years ago included a win on penalties against Spain and a1-0 win over Portugal.

The veterans in the squad, like Achraf Hakimi, will be prepared to deal with the turnaround from the 120-minute battle with the Netherlands.

The defensive structure has to be there for the first half to avoid Canada from taking advantage of any tired legs.

Canada is, at least on paper, an easier opponent to handle than the Dutch.

Morocco could wear down the Canadian defense with Ismael Saibari and others. The best approach might be to try and go on the offensive early and score a goal.

Canada wasn't up to the moment in its Group B finale against Switzerland, a game in which first place in the group was on the line.

Morocco has the potential to put the co-host under pressure and take advantage of that inexperience in key spots of the game.
