Everything Christian Pulisic, Mauricio Pochettino Said After USMNT World Cup Win vs. BIH
The United States is moving on to the Round of 16 after beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 on Wednesday.
It wasn't an easy win for the USMNT, who had to defend a 1-0 lead with just 10 men after Folarin Balogun picked up a red card in the 64th minute. U.S. star Christian Pulisic praised the way the team handled things down the stretch.
"We had to dig deep for that one. Obviously, I felt we put on such a good performance and didn't deserve the red card," Pulisic said after the match. "I didn't see it. But it's unfortunate. But for us to dig in deep like that and just to get another goal and defend the way we did, it took a real team effort. Really proud of them."
Manager Mauricio Pochettino also sang praises, both for his team and the fans who showed out in San Francisco.
"So proud. The players deserve everything," he said. "The way that we competed against a very good team, a very difficult team. So proud of all my players, all the staff, and then these fans were quite amazing today again. It's amazing to live that experience."
The USMNT is by no means a favorite to go all the way in the World Cup, but Pochettino has no reason not to believe in his squad after the way they have started this year.
"Why not us?" Pochettino said.
The United States will look to reach the World Cup quarterfinal for the first time since 2002 with a win over Belgium on Monday.
