Christian Pulisic Gives Injury Update in Video Ahead of USMNT's World Cup Knockout Bracket Game

Timothy RappJun 30, 2026

It sounds as though Christian Pulisic will be good to go for the USMNT's Round of 32 matchup against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday after dealing with a calf issue during the Group Stage.

"I'm feeling good. It's been a good week of preparation, I felt really good in the last game," he told Fox Sports. "So I'm excited to go for tomorrow."

He wouldn't confirm that he's starting but added, "I think we'll get it figured out today."

Pulisic was pulled from the USMNT's World Cup-opening win over Paraguay after the first half with his calf issue and didn't play in the country's second game in the Group Stage, a 2-0 win over Australia. He classified the injury as "a pretty strong contusion, strain, whatever you want to call it."

"I never feared anything worse," he added last week. "I was pushing, and I was really close to trying to be available for (Australia). ... It wasn't anything where I feared anything worse than really what it was."

He then came on in the 58th minute of the team's final match in Group D, a 3-2 loss against Türkiye. It's unclear if Pulisic would have started against Türkiye if the game mattered (the USMNT had already clinched the top spot in Group D after the Australia win).

The USMNT are a far less dangerous side without Pulisic, the country's best player and one of the best players in the history of the program. With the United States serving as a co-host at this year's tournament, expectations have run high, and the Americans looked brilliant in the opening pair of wins.

But anything less than a berth in the Round of 16 would be a failure for the golden generation of USMNT players, and most supporters would need a berth in the quarterfinals to consider this year's tournament a true success.

"We want to do this for ourselves, we want to do this for our own country," Pulisic told reporters last month. "We don't need to prove (anything) to anyone else. We have really good players playing in top clubs in the world. We have a good team. And we're going to do the best we can to prove ourselves right, more than anything."

Having Pulisic available to start against Bosnia and Herzegovina would certainly help in that regard.
