Belgium vs. Senegal Top Storylines, Odds, Live Stream for World Cup 2026

Joe TanseyJun 30, 2026

Belgium and Senegal face off in one of the more underrated clashes in the round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

Kevin De Bruyne and Belgium are trying to get back to the quarterfinals for the third time in the last four World Cups.

Senegal doesn't have the same recent World Cup pedigree, but it has plenty of recent knockout-round experience from the African Cup of Nations, where it played in three of the last four championship matches.

Belgium is the headliner of Wednesday's game in Seattle, but Senegal shouldn't be underestimated.

Belgium emerged from Group G as the first-place team, but that was only made possible by a Matchday 3 thumping of New Zealand.

The Red Devils drew 1-1 with Egypt and failed to score in a draw with Iran prior to the 5-1 win over New Zealand.

Senegal posted five goals in its Group I finale over Iraq to get into the knockout round field as one of the eight-best third-place teams.

While there is plenty of attacking confidence on both sides right now, we shouldn't expect a high-scoring game.

Senegal comes in with plenty of knockout-round experience from a handful of deep AFCON runs in recent years.

It's obviously a different tournament than the World Cup, but the Lions of Teranga at least know how to approach this type of game. They won't be intimidated by Belgium and may have a recipe to frustrate the European side.

Don't let the five-goal performance against New Zealand fool you. Belgium still has some attacking issues it needs to figure out.

Everything runs through De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku. The play of the strikers left a lot to be desired so far.

Charles De Ketelaere hasn't been that effective in a starting role and Romelu Lukaku hasn't been as powerful as he was in previous tournament.

De Bruyne, Doku and Leandro Trossard have to combine to create chances for Belgium to avoid a frustrating 90, or 120, minutes.

Senegal did concede three times to both France and Norway in Group I, so there is a blueprint for Belgium to score.

However, Belgium doesn't have a dominant force up top in Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland. It might have to work harder to create the high-quality chances.

Senegal will try to take the game to Belgium in moments throughout the 90 minutes.

Sadio Mane is the big name in the Senegal attack, but Crystal Palace's Ismalia Sarr is the real danger man to watch.

Sarr scored twice against Norway and found the back of the net again versus Iraq.

Senegal will have to more efficient with its chances because Belgium will push the game and create more opportunities.

But don't be surprised if Senegal is in the game late, or possesses a lead. It is more than capable of knocking Belgium out on the right day.
