Draymond Green, Warriors Agree to New Contract, Full Details After LeBron James Pursuit

Draymond Green is a Golden State Warriors legend, and he isn't going anywhere.

Green and the Warriors agreed to terms on a one-year, $27.7 million contract, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday.

The move comes four days after the Warriors learned LeBron James had spurned a chance to join forces with Green and Steph Curry and would instead sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Green declined his $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 season on June 29 as a way to give the Warriors extra flexibility to pursue James among other potential roster upgrades.

For his part, Green said on Inside the NBA in May he couldn't envision himself in another uniform.

Now he doesn't have to after agreeing to this new deal.

It probably would have been difficult for fans to envision the Michigan State product playing for another NBA team as well considering all he has accomplished with the Warriors since they selected him in the second round of the 2012 NBA draft.

His resume includes four championships, a Defensive Player of the Year award, nine All-Defensive selections, two All-NBA selections and four All-Star Game nods.

Green's overall versatility and ability to guard bigger players on the defensive end allowed the Warriors to unleash small-ball lineups with some combination of Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala, among others, when they were the gold standard of the league.

While Green is no longer the peak performer who can stuff the stat sheet on any given night that he was during those seasons, he is still a formidable defender and someone who can work in pick-and-rolls with Curry or facilitate for the sharp-shooting guard as an excellent passing forward.

He finished 11th in Defensive Player of the Year voting last season after he was an All-Defensive First Team selection the previous campaign.

Green also provides plenty of veteran leadership and postseason experience for a team that will be looking to return to the list of realistic Western Conference contenders this season after a disappointing 37-45 effort in 2025-26.

And keeping him in the fold is a big part of those plans.
