Draymond Green Gives Update on Warriors Contract, Talks Steve Kerr's Future Amid NBA Rumors

Zach BacharMay 6, 2026

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green discussed potentially signing a new contract with the team on Wednesday.

Green said that he doesn't see himself in another uniform but the Warriors franchise has to feel the same way during an appearance on Inside the NBA, per Andscape's Marc J. Spears.

Green previously told Spears that he wants to remain with Golden State and if the team is fair and wants him, he'll work fairly to stay.

The four-time All-Star also weighed in on Warriors head coach Steve Kerr's future.

"I think and hope he's coming back," Green said on Inside the NBA. "I don't know more than anyone else in the world knows outside of what I do know is that he wants to coach. And so if he wants to coach, I think he comes back."

ESPN's Shams Charania, Ramona Shelburne and Anthony Slater previously reported that Warriors controlling governor Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy met with Kerr to talk about his future at the end of the 2025-26 season.

Green previously expressed his belief that Kerr may have hindered him throughout his career offensively despite noting that he holds no ill-will towards his coach.

"As much as he's done for me in basketball, a part of me thinks he's hindered me in my career and what I could have become," Green said on an April 29 episode of The Draymond Green Show (12:00 mark). "But what he's also helped me become. Like you got to take the good with the bad, man."

Green has spent 12 of his 14 NBA seasons playing under Kerr, operating in a crucial role on Warriors squads that made several deep playoff runs and won four championships.

During Golden State's 2025-26 campaign, it finished with a 37-45 record before failing to advance beyond the play-in tournament.

Green averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game while shooting 41.8 percent from the field.

He could choose to hit free agency this offseason, as he holds a $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 season.

Green also appears to be open to working out a new deal with the Warriors, though.
