5-Star DL Marcus Fakatou Makes Commitment Between Ohio State, Georgia, Texas
Ohio State has a new blue-chip defensive lineman.
Marcus Fakatou, a 5-star defensive lineman from California's Sierra Canyon, committed to Ohio State over Texas and Georgia on Monday, per Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Fakatou is considered the No. 26 overall prospect in the Class of 2027, the No. 3 player from the state of California and the No. 2 defensive lineman overall, per 247Sports' Composite Rankings.
Andrew Ivins of the scouting site described him as a "rugged defensive lineman with a sky-scraping frame and a wide base that wins primarily with effort and energy" and suggested he's "likely to kick inside at the next level, but could settle in as a 4i in an odd front as that would allow him to read, react and create up-field push."
Fakatou also has a background as a rugby player, so there's no doubting his athleticism. But his 6'6" and 275-pound frame is also impressive and gives him dynamic upside at the next level.
Ohio State, meanwhile, keeps loading up on the recruiting trail. Fakatou is the third 5-star addition for a 2027 class that currently ranks seventh in the nation in 247Sports' Composite Rankings, joining 5-star edge DJ Jacobs and 5-star wideout Jamier Brown. The Buckeyes have also received commitments from 13 4-stars.
