Lane Kiffin-Michael Jordan 'Ghost' Mode Motto and Meme Explained by CFB Insider
Earlier in June, new LSU head coach Lane Kiffin posted a black-and-white picture of Michael Jordan on social media, with the quote, "They have no idea who you are becoming. Time to go ghost."
But... what did it mean, exactly?

Blake Toppmeyer of USA Today offered one interpretation on Monday, writing that the post "became Kiffin's way of explaining his social media silence to his more than 844,000 followers."
When Toppmeyer asked Kiffin how he would handle being cast as college football's villain in 2026 after ditching Ole Miss for LSU, he responded, "Probably quieter than you think. I don't want to give away the movie. I feel I'm giving it away. Probably quieter than you think."
Going "ghost," if you will.
Hilariously, however, there's no indication that Jordan ever said those words.
As Toppmeyer wrote, "Punchy quote, but did Jordan actually say it? There's no evidence he did. I searched newspaper archives and sleuthed the internet. I found no record of Jordan ever saying it. Best as I can tell, this meme circulates on social media within theย life coach,ย fitness trainer,ย motivational guru, andย content creatorย communities. Aside from the words being slapped above a Jordan photo, there's no connection between the quote and MJ."
Hey, don't let the truth get in the way of a good, um, quote. Right? Sure. Just don't expect Kiffin to remain in "ghost" mode for long.
