Mamdani Honors Jalen Brunson, Knicks by Renaming Manhattan Streets After Players Following NBA Title
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Monday that streets across Manhattan will be temporarily renamed to honor members of the NBA championship-winning New York Knicks.
Eighteen different players, from Finals MVP Jalen Brunson on down to Dillon Jones received the distinction:
"These street signs are a tribute to the players who delivered the championship generations of fans waited their whole lives to see and the city that stood behind them every step of the way," Mamdani said. "Long after the confetti is gone, New Yorkers will be able to walk these streets and remember the team that brought our city so much joy. Knicks in five."
To coincide with the Knicks' title parade, the mayor previously rechristened the team's path down Broadway as "Champions Way."
Mamdani spoke at the event and delivered a passionate speech detailing all of the heartbreak that preceded New York's long-awaited triumph.
The new, temporary street signs reflect each player's jersey number. You can find Brunson's name at Seventh Avenue South and West 11 Street, for example. Karl-Anthony Towns is spotlighted at Seventh Avenue and West 32 Street. Finals hero OG Anunoby got Sixth Avenue and West 8 Street.
