Jannik Sinner overcame a slow start to defeat Miomir Kecmanovic in five sets.
The Italian entered Wimbledon without playing any tune-up events, and it certainly showed.
In the first set, Sinner committed an uncharacteristic 15 errors.
Sinner suddenly regained his top form after winning the second set and leveling the match.
However, any momentum was short-lived.
The four-time major champion led 3-0 in the third-set tiebreaker before Kecmanovic clawed his way back in to take a commanding two-set-to-one lead.
Sinner found his signature baseline tennis late, dominating the final two sets, committing just 10 unforced errors combined.
The World No. 1 may have been far from his best, but he was able to lock in as the match neared its end, and there is little reason for concern going forward.
In the final match of the day, Novak Djokovic persevered against Yibing Wu in a four-set battle.
Wu's forehand certainly challenged the 24-time Grand Slam champion, but Djokovic's experience ultimately made the difference.
Trailing two sets to one, Wu had six break point opportunities in a two-game span but failed to convert on any of them.
Djokovic then managed to break Wu with his relentless defense before serving out the match.

* Predicted winner in bold
Match of the Day: Alexander Zverev (2) vs. Alexander Blockx
Alexander Zverev enters Wimbledon off the heels of securing his first major title at the 2026 French Open.
Zverev has one of the best serves on tour, but on the grass surface he has struggled to find aggression, often remaining too passive from the baseline.
Alexander Blockx, meanwhile, has not played a match since the 2026 French Open due to injury.
Blockx is 0-2 against Zverev, with both of those losses coming this year on the clay surface.
However, his game is much better suited for a fast surface like grass, and if he can capitalize on his serve and aggression, an upset should not be ruled out.
Prediction: Alexander Blockx def. No. 2 Alexander Zverev in 4 sets

Coco Gauff was also equally impressive.

Match of The Day: Serena Williams vs. Maya Joint
Serena Williams is set to compete in a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2022 US Open.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion has not played a singles match since that loss in 2022; however, she's played doubles in some tune-up events leading up to this week and has looked stellar.
The former World No. 1 clearly still has the dominant serve and blistering groundstrokes that helped her claim 23 Grand Slam titles.
Meanwhile, Maya Joint will look to earn the biggest win of her career.
Born nearly 7 years after Serena won her first title, Joint has only won two Grand Slam main-draw matches in her career.
The Australian may be a solid baseline player, but she is unlikely to achieve the upset.
Prediction: Serena Williams def. Maya Joint in 2 sets
