US Open Tennis 2026 Results, Winners, Losers and Highlights from Friday's Bracket

On Friday, Carlos Alacaraz defeated Yibing Wu in straight sets to move one step closer to repeating as US Open champion.

In the women's draw, Aryna Sabalenka cruised to victory, while Jessica Pegula outlasted Leylah Fernandez in a three-set thriller.

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Yibing Wu in straight sets to march on to the Round of 16.

The defending champion was far from his best, struggling to stay consistent on his forehand and find his first serve.

This wasn't a total surprise considering he's coming off a four-month layoff with a wrist injury.

Despite the up-and-down performance, there is little reason for concern for the Spaniard, who is still the favorite to win the US Open.

In other action, Tommy Paul avenged his US Open loss against Alexander Bublik last year in a five-set thriller.

After losing the first set, Bublik hit another gear, dominating to win the next two sets.

However, Paul was undeterred and played flawlessly through the final two sets, while Bublik suffered a massive dip in focus.

The third round of the US Open continues Saturday on ESPN, with all matches also being available on ESPN Unlimited.

Match of the Day: Learner Tien (14) vs. Jakub Mensik (17)

Learner Tien is seeking to become the youngest American man to reach the Round of 16 at the US Open since Andy Roddick in 2002.

The 20-year-old enters the third round on the heels of an impressive victory over Gael Monfils.

But the challenge is about to get significantly tougher with Jakub Mensik looming.

Mensik also enters in impressive form.

When his serve is on, Mensik can be an incredibly difficult opponent to face.

The 21-year-old is the slight underdog against Tien but certainly has what it takes to advance in New York.

That being said, the clear physical edge goes to Tien, and if he's able to make this a physical match, he should be expected to prevail.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Kamilla Rakhimova in the third round, keeping her quest for a third consecutive US Open title alive.

Sabalenka opened up the match in dominant fashion, winning her first 16 points on first serve.

Rakimova settled into a rhythm in the second set before Sabalenka broke at 4-4 to serve out the match.

The world No. 1 played her trademark aggressive tennis, hitting 29 winners, along with 10 aces.

Jessica Pegula narrowly escaped a three-set thriller against Leylah Fernandez to move on to the Round of 16 for the fifth straight year.

Pegula struggled early, committing 11 unforced errors and landing only 41 percent of her first serves in the first set.

However, the world No. 3 quickly found her rhythm, using her aggressive tennis to take a stranglehold on the match and win the final two sets 6-4, 6-3.

On Saturday, Iva Jovic and Alexandra Eala will face off at Arthur Ashe Stadium in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.

At just 18 years old, Jovic is aiming to reach her third Round of 16 at a major this season.

Meanwhile, Eala is coming off a career-best Round of 16 appearance at Wimbledon and has quickly become a crowd favorite.

The 21-year-old Filipino captured the Citi Open title in July and has been in spectacular form lately.

Eala has dropped only eight games in her first two matches combined.

While Jovic may be a slight favorite, Eala is one of the toughest opponents with her impressive returning and court-redirection skills.

She seamlessly balances aggression and defense, making her a nightmare match-up for many players.

If Eala can sustain her recent form, she should be able to persevere.
