Best Landing Spots for Stefon Diggs, Top Offensive Free Agents Ahead of 2026 NFL Training Camp

Moe MotonJun 29, 2026

At this point in the offseason, top NFL free agents are patient with signing a new contract. In doing so, they have extra time to weigh their best offers as rosters undergo changes ahead of training camp.

Several offensive free agents are still available, and they're good enough to start on most rosters.

Typically, teams are active in summer free agency a week or two before training camp.ย

So, here are the best landing spots for top offensive free agents like Stefon Diggs, who can provide an immediate impact wherever they sign in the coming weeks.

WR Keenan Allen: New Orleans Saints

In 2023, New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore served as the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator. He fielded the 13th-ranked passing offense led by wideout Keenan Allen, who caught a career-high 108 passes for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns.

Entering his age-34 season, Allen is a chain-moving receiver who can be a safety blanket for second-year quarterback Tyler Shough. Remember, the savvy veteran wideout led the Chicago Bears with seven touchdown receptions in quarterback Caleb Williams' 2024 rookie campaign.

Saints wideout Chris Olave registered nine touchdown receptions last season, scoring on big plays with four outside the red zone. Allen could be the primary target inside the 20-yard line when the ball is in Shough's hands.

New Orleans has an ascending offense with the addition of rookie first-rounder Jordyn Tyson, running back Travis Etienne Jr. and guard David Edwards. Allen can be the next acquisition in a revamped unit.ย

OT Taylor Decker: Pittsburgh Steelers

Offensive tackle Taylor Decker

Assuming Taylor Decker wants to continue his career after contemplating retirement, he's still a starting-caliber left tackle.

According to Pro Football Focus, Decker allowed just two sacks, which ranked 21st among 89 offensive tackles last season. Though he has a decade of wear and tear on his body, the 32-year-old hasn't missed more than three games in a season since 2021.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a question mark at left tackle. At that position, Broderick Jones has struggled in pass protection, and the team doesn't have a timetable for his full return from a neck injury.

Troy Fautanu took reps at left tackle during the spring, but he lined up exclusively on the right side through his first two seasons.ย

With Decker in the fold, the Steelers can adopt a measured approach to addressing their tackle spots. Jones could take his time in recovery. Fautanu would move back to right tackle. The coaching staff could bring rookie first-rounder Max Iheanachor along gradually as a swing player at the position.

WR Stefon Diggs: Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders selected Antonio Williams to address a need at wide receiver. Yet they can still add veteran insurance in case he has a quiet rookie campaign.ย

Brandon Aiyuk has released a series of videos on social media, lambasting his current team, the San Francisco 49ers, and pushing to be associated with the Commanders. Washington should look elsewhere for receiver helpโ€”someone who's a free agent and has been on the field over the last year.

Entering his age-32 season, Stefon Diggs can be a reliable No. 2 wideout. He caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns with a career-high 83.3 percent catch rate as the New England Patriots' go-to target last year.ย ย

In a recent Fox 5 interview, Diggs discussed the possibility of playing in the DMV area, where he grew up:

"I did have a small piece of me like, damn, it would be great to come home and play and play in front of the fans I used to play in front of as a young adolescent in college and just kind of doing something for the city. That definitely would be a moment. Hopefully, things do work out."ย

Diggs could sign a homecoming contract with the Commanders in the coming weeks.

WR Tyreek Hill: Kansas City Chiefs

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill

In May, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Rashee Rice will need two months to recover from a clean-up knee surgery. Xavier Worthy saw a notable drop-off in production between his rookie and second seasons, in part because of ankle and shoulder injuries.

In light of that, the Kansas City Chiefs should be ready to welcome back Tyreek Hill with open arms if he's able to play at least half of the upcoming season after tearing multiple ligaments in his knee last September.

While on the Pat McAfee Show, Schefter said Hill might not be ready to play until midway through the 2026 season.ย

Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said his client wants to continue his career "once he's fully healthy." If the once-explosive wideout can get back to 75 percent of his pre-injury form, he can lead the Chiefs' receiver unit in a reunion.

Remember, the big-play wideout isn't far removed from back-to-back 1,700-plus-yard campaigns between 2022 and 2023. He played through the 2024 term with torn ligaments in his wrist and still finished with 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdowns.

If Hill is serious about extending his NFL career rather than being a DJ, he could have a bounce-back year, along with Patrick Mahomes, who's working his way back from a torn ACL.

WR Deebo Samuel: Atlanta Falcons

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel

Deebo Samuel has been a solid No. 2 receiver for most of his career. Last season, he served as the Washington Commanders' No. 1 wideout and led the club in multiple receiving categories, while Terry McLaurin battled injuries.

As a proven pass-catcher who can fill a void and carve out a secondary role of his own, the seven-year veteran would be an ideal fit with the receiver-needy Atlanta Falcons.

The Athletic's Josh Kendall believes the Falcons could bolster their receiver group before Week 1.

"First-year general manager Ian Cunningham has been diligent in improving the fringes of Atlanta's roster since being hired, and if there's going to be a random offseason move, it might come at wide receiver," Kendall wrote.ย

Atlanta has an unsettled receiver corps behind Drake London. Jahan Dotson, Olamide Zaccheaus and rookie third-rounder Zachariah Branch will compete for targets in complementary roles.ย

Samuel would be an immediate upgrade in the No. 2 spot. Most importantly, he can extend plays after the catch. The winner of the quarterback battle between Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. can target him on routine completions that could go 10-20 yards downfield.

TE Jonnu Smith: New England Patriots

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel reunited with wideout A.J. Brown, one of his former Tennessee Titans players; he could vouch for another in Jonnu Smith.

The Titans drafted Smith before they hired Vrabel, but he recorded 76 receptions for 887 yards and 11 touchdowns over his last two years in Tennessee. In 2020, the pass-catching tight end finished second on the team in touchdown receptions with eight.

Just two years ago, Smith hauled in 88 passes for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in a Pro Bowl year with the Miami Dolphins. Within the Pittsburgh Steelers' crowded tight end room, he had a down year, recording 38 receptions for 222 yards and two touchdowns. That said, the 30-year-old would likely have more pass-catching opportunities in New England.

Patriots' backup tight end Julian Hill suffered a knee injury that will sideline him for the 2026 season. New England can add Smith while the coaching staff develops rookie third-rounder Eli Raridon as the future at the position.

Smith would be a more dynamic secondary tight end than Austin Hooper, who caught 21 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns with the team last year. The Patriots can pair him with Hunter Henry to field a more productive pass-catching tight end duo in 2026.

OG Kevin Zeitler: San Francisco 49ers

Guard Kevin Zeitler

Kevin Zeitler has been a solid all-around guard for most of his 14 pro seasons with six different teams. He's a plug-and-play option for clubs that need a gap-blocking interior offensive lineman.

At 36, Zeitler still has the strength to hold his own in the trenches. For what it's worth, Pro Football Focus ranked him within the top 20 among guards in pass-blocking and run-blocking last season.

The San Francisco 49ers have a need at left guard following the departure of Spencer Burford in free agency. They should consider a more experienced upgrade over 2025 seventh-rounder Connor Colby.ย

Zeitler can be a strong asset in head coach Kyle Shanahan's run-heavy offense, which has ranked within the top 10 in carries for four of the previous five seasons. He can be a bridge starter while rookie fourth-rounder Carver Willis develops in a backup role.
