Lionel Messi made history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Saturday night.

Messi scored on a free kick in the 79th minute of Argentina's clash with Jordan, becoming the first player to ever score in seven consecutive World Cup matches.

His latest accomplishment was particularly impressive considering he entered the match in the 60th minute, as Argentina already advanced to the knockout round prior to Saturday's action.

Messi also extended his own record for the most goals in World Cup history with 19.

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has been dominant throughout the beginning of Argentina's 2026 World Cup run, starting off with a hat trick against Algeria to open the team's group stage slate on June 16.

Messi followed it up with another strong performance against Austria on Monday, finishing with a pair of goals in a 2-0 victory.

The 39-year-old currently leads the race for the Golden Boot with six goals, as no other player has recorded more than four in this year's World Cup.

Messi and Argentina have plenty of momentum as they prepare for a matchup with Cabo Verde in the Round of 32 on Friday.
