2028 Top-5 QB Neimann Lawrence Makes Commitment Decision Among Notre Dame, Texas, Michigan, More
2028 quarterback prospect Neimann Lawrence committed to Texas on Thursday, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.com.
Lawrence is a 4-star prospect listed as the No. 5 quarterback and No. 53 overall player in the 2028 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.
He chose the Longhorns over other finalists including Texas A&M, Miami, Notre Dame, and Michigan (via Fawcett).
Lawrence also received offers from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, Ohio State and South Carolina.
He revealed that Texas' coaching staff, particularly head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, factored into his final decision.
"The rich quarterback development history that they have with coach [Steve] Sarkisian and [quarterbacks] coach [AJ] Milwee," Lawrence said, per 247Sports' Zach Blostein. "They have a long list of guys they developed over the past couple of years at Alabama and Texas as well. Being a part of that group and knowing that I'm going to be developed by a staff to go to the next level is the ultimate goal."
"It was the last two visits that I took: the one in the summer when I did the camp, and the one in the spring," he added. "The visit in the spring put them in the lead, and the summer visit finalized everything."
Lawrence is from Plantation, Florida and will be suiting up for American Heritage High School in 2026 after transferring from Miami Northwestern.
During the 2025 season, he completed 70.8 percent of his throws for 1,971 yards and 32 touchdowns compared to just one interception (h/t 247Sports). He also rushed for 104 yards and one score.
Texas has recorded a double-digit win total in each of the past three years, finishing at 10-3 in 2025.
