Anthony Davis Trade Rumors Addressed by Wizards GM After Trae Young Contract, 2026 NBA Draft
Washington Wizards general manager Will Dawkins discussed the trade rumors surrounding star forward Anthony Davis after the 2026 NBA draft came to a close.
"With AD again, he wants to be here and we want him here," Dawkins said during an appearance on ESPN after the draft concluded. "We'll have that conversation in the middle of August when we can officially have that."
Washington already secured the future of Trae Young this offseason, as he signed a new four-year contract worth $212 million with the organization on Monday.

Young is set to operate in a key offensive role for the Wizards moving forward while playing alongside AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 draft.
As for Davis, who was acquired by Washington from the Dallas Mavericks as part of an eight-player trade on Feb. 4, his long-term future with the team isn't as clear.
He has one guaranteed season left on his current contract, as he'll earn $58.5 million for his 2026-27 campaign. Davis also owns a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season.
At 33 years old, Washington could be hesitant to make a major financial commitment to the 10-time All-Star as it looks to build around Dybantsa.
Davis has also been plagued by health issues as of late, averaging just 48.6 regular-season games played per year throughout the past five seasons.
Still, he'll be eligible to sign a four-year extension worth $275 million on Aug. 6 that would pay him $76 million at age 37 (h/t ESPN's Bobby Marks).
While a trade could be a possibility if contract talks break down, Dawkins appears to be ready to negotiate.
