USMNT Lineup vs. Turkiye Strategy Revealed by Mauricio Pochettino Ahead of World Cup Group Match

The United States men's national team already clinched the top spot in Group D. Unsurprisingly, they'll keep a few regular starters on the bench ahead of Thursday's Group Stage finale against Türkiye.

USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino suggested that the four players on yellow cards from the first two matches—Chris Richards, Folarin Balogun, Antonee Robinson and Tyler Adams—would be rotated out of the squad.

"It's unnecessary to take a risk, to pick up a yellow card for the next stage," he told reporters.

He added that Cristian Roldan would be further assessed, while Christian Pulisic—who missed the second half of the 4-1 win over Paraguay and the 2-0 win over Australia with a left calf injury—"is talking with the medical area, he's available, now we need to decide if he plays from the beginning or in the second half."

So it sounds as though Pulisic will get some minutes, though a number of other starters will not.

After clinching Group D, the United States has a greater than 99 percent chance to face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32, per The Athletic.
