Brian Kelly Reportedly Lands TV Role for 2026 CFB Season After LSU Firing
Former Notre Dame and LSU head coach Brian Kelly is off to CBS.
According to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, Kelly will be joining a "three-man booth on Mountain West games on the broadcast network" alongside serving as an analyst on CBSSN weekday show, Inside College Football.
While Kelly doesn't bring broadcasting experience to the table, he'll offer plenty of insight from his 22 years serving as a college football head coach. His experience includes tenures at Central Michigan (2004-06), Cincinnati (2006-09), Notre Dame (2010-21) and LSU (2022-25), compiling a 200-76 record (officially 179-76 after NCAA sanctions for the 2012-13 seasons).
The 64-year-old was fired midway through LSU's 2025 season after a 5-3 start. While the Tigers were 34-14 during Kelly's tenure, they never earned a College Football Playoff berth.
His time in the broadcast booth may be a temporary gig, however—Kelly has previously stated he isn't done coaching.
"I wanna be back coaching, that's what I love to do," he told USA Today's Austin Curtright, John Brice and Blake Toppmeyer in May. "... I think what's clear to me is I miss the relationships. I miss being with the players and that to me is what drives me. That's my passion in wanting to do that. ... But for me, it's not necessarily about the right fit as much as where are we going to be with college football. That allows me to build those relationships with players. And so I think that that's really important. And at the end of the day, for me to be at a place where relationships are still part of the process of being in college football."
Any decisions about his coaching future will come at least a year from now, however. In 2026, Kelly will be in the broadcast booth.
