It's no surprise that Ohio State, Oregon and Indiana are high in the rankings. Early preseason polls love those two teams this year. ESPN's Mark Schlabach has Ohio State first and Oregon second (Indiana is not too far behind at No. 6). Stewart Mandel of The Athletic has Indiana, Oregon and Ohio State in his top three. CBS Sports places Ohio State first, Oregon third and Indiana sixth.
Ohio State and Oregon both return their quarterbacks, Julian Sayin and Dante Moore, respectively. Indiana does not, with Fernando Mendoza now gone to the Las Vegas Raiders. However, the Hoosiers brought in a great transfer, Josh Hoover from TCU, who can find great success in Bloomington.
All three teams retain a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. For example, OSU wide receiver Jeremiah Smith might be the best player in the nation and could also be the top non-quarterback selected in next year's draft. Kenyatta Jackson Jr. is back in town after amassing six-and-a-half sacks, tied for second-most on the team.
Oregon has a few potential first-round draft choices themselves in defensive lineman A'Mauri Washington and edge-rusher Teitum Tuioti, both of whom made Brett Sobleski of Bleacher Report's latest first-round mock draft for 2027.
Indiana wide receiver Charlie Becker could be a superstar in the making after amassing 20 yards per catch last year. Indiana linebacker Rolijah Hardy is back in the mix too (103 tackles, eight sacks).
So all three teams deserve their lofty rankings right now in EA College Football 27, which will be released on July 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
