New Jaylen Brown Rumors Reveal Star Wants 'His Own Team' amid Giannis, Celtics, Bucks Trade Buzz
The Boston Celtics reportedly have been focused on trying to secure a trade for Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, and it sounds like they've accepted the likelihood of moving on from star guard Jaylen Brown.
During an appearance on Monday's episode of First Take, ESPN's Brian Windhorst discussed Brown's stance on being included in trade negotiations, and he revealed that the 29-year-old is also ready to move on from Boston.
"And I understand that the initial response is going to be, 'Well, what does Jaylen Brown think about this?'" Windhorst said. "From what I understand, Jaylen Brown is accepting this and realizes this is a chance to turn the page in his career and that he may be getting his own team, which is something that he has thought about for some time."
Windhorst explained that the Celtics would package Brown and other assets, such as the No. 27 pick in Tuesday's NBA draft, to acquire Antetokounmpo from the Bucks. Boston isn't alone in its pursuit of the two-time NBA MVP, as Milwaukee is also reportedly weighing a trade offer from the Miami Heat.
Brown is coming off his best year in the league, as he stepped up as the Celtics' lead option while star forward Jayson Tatum recovered from a torn Achilles tendon. Still, Windhorst revealed that Boston is unwavering in its stance that it will move on from Brown in hopes of improving its roster and returning to championship contention.
"I think the important thing that's happened is that the Celtics have decided that they're going to make a change," Windhorst reported. "Jaylen Brown is in this deal on offer, might be a Buck within 12 hours or so. I think they were riding the fence for a while, they were careful that they wanted the word offer out there. That's moved on. The Celtics, I think, at the end of the day, have reached the conclusion that they are not good enough with where they were. They believe internally they didn't lose in the first round to Philly because Jayson Tatum got hurt, they believe they lost because they weren't good enough."
He continued: "And I think they believe that if they had gotten to the next round against the [New York] Knicks that they were not good enough to beat the Knicks and would not have been good enough to get out of the East and win the Finals. And so, they are aggressively looking to make a change. And I believe if the Bucks choose the Miami Heat offer, Jaylen Brown will get traded somewhere else. They are going to move on here."
After spending most of his career playing behind Tatum, Brown proved that he can handle the responsibilities of being a No. 1 option. He will certainly be one of the most intriguing players on the trade block if the Celtics aren't able to move him to the Bucks to acquire Antetokounmpo.
