Tyler Kolek Reacts to Police Stopping Him During Knicks' Parade in Viral Video
Despite being a cult favorite among New York Knicks fans, Tyler Kolek is still trying to establish himself as a recognizable face based on what happened during Thursday's championship parade.
Kolek was briefly stopped by police in New York who mistook him for a fan as he was engaging the crowd in the streets of Manhattan to celebrate the Knicks' title.
Kolek, to his credit, had a nice sense of humor about the situation in a post on X after it happened.
It is understandable that if you are someone who only hopped on the Knicks bandwagon in the playoffs that Kolek might not stand out to you.
Kolek did not appear in a game during the NBA Finals. His most recent appearance was in the fourth quarter of Game 4 against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The 25-year-old played a total of 53 minutes in the postseason. One benefit of the Knicks winning so many games in decisive fashion was it allowed him to get more court time than he otherwise would have.
Kolek played 12 minutes in the closeout game against the Atlanta Hawks and 13 minutes in Game 4 against the Philadelphia 76ers. There were plenty of opportunities to see him on the court.
The only issue is you had to keep watching deep into games that were decided by at least 30 points.
Kolek has spent his first two NBA seasons with the Knicks after being acquired in a draft-night trade with the Portland Trail Blazers, who selected him with the No. 34 pick in 2024.
Prior to being stopped by NYPD officers during the Knicks' title parade, Kolek's biggest claim to fame might have come in January when he pulled off a doubleheader by playing in a G League and NBA game on the same day.
