Lane Kiffin Guarantees National Championship, Calls LSU the 'Best Job in America' in Video

LSU might not win a national championship in Lane Kiffin's first season with the program, but the head coach guaranteed the Tigers will eventually reach the top of college football's mountaintop.

"I don't know how fast it's going to happen, but we're going to win a national championship," he said during an appearance on the In The Bayou with Tyrann Mathieu podcast. "We're going to have the teams and the rosters back to the way they were playing when they were great."

He also said the recruiting has taken off "now that we've got our staff fully here" and added that he believes "it's the best job in America."

LSU is no stranger to winning national championships, as it did so during the 2003 and 2007 seasons with the BCS in place and again during the 2019 season in the College Football Playoff.

Yet it has not returned to the CFP stage since Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson led the way for that dominant 2019 squad. In fact, it has lost at least three games in each of the last six seasons and has as many campaigns at or below .500 (two) as it does with double-digit wins in that span.

The Tigers hired Kiffin, who led Ole Miss to its first CFP appearance in program history last season before his high-profile exit before those postseason games started, to return the program to glory.

He is off to quite the start and brought in the top-ranked transfer portal class for the 2026 cycle, per 247Sports. With that much talent joining the fold in addition to his own coaching, it would be anything but surprising if LSU is in the middle of the CFP during his first season.

But the best route to the championship is by consistently stacking talented recruiting and transfer portal classes together over the course of cycles and years. 

Kiffin knows that and highlighted the recruiting during his comments when discussing why he believes the Tigers will win the national championship during his tenure. 

It may have been a bold claim, but that is the goal every year at programs like LSU. He knew that when he took the job, and comments like this imply he is embracing the expectations and reality at his new home.
