5-Star CB John Meredith III Announces CFB Commitment Between Texas, Alabama, Texas A&M

Texas secured a commitment from one of the most talented prospects in the 2027 class on Friday.

Five-star cornerback John Meredith III announced his commitment to the Texas Longhorns over fellow finalists Alabama and Texas A&M during an appearance Friday on the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN:

Meredith is ranked as the No. 1 cornerback and No. 2 overall player in the class of 2027 in 247Sports' composite.

A 6'2", 175-pound recruit from North Crowley High School in Fort Worth, Texas, Meredith is a multi-sport athlete who also starred in Track & Field. Still, football is where he excels, and he was selected to the Under Armour All-America Game as an underclassman, recording an interception in the contest.

247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins described Meredith as an "advanced cover corner that's built for the game's current era with his long limbs, quick reaction times and elite recovery speed." He added that the youngster "projects as a potential CB1 for a College Football Playoff contender that can help shut down one side of the field."

Texas would certainly love it if Meredith could live up to such a lofty projection. The Longhorns went 10-3 last season and failed to earn a spot in the CFP, but they managed to defeat Michigan 41-27 in the Citrus Bowl.

Meredith is now one of the headliners of a 2027 Texas recruiting class that also includes 5-star wide receiver Easton Royal. Head coach Steve Sarkisian has proven to be a top-notch recruiter, and it will be up to him to develop Meredith and the rest of the class over the next few years before they make the jump to the NFL.
