Myles Garrett Reveals If He's Reached Out to Aaron Donald About Rejoining Rams amid NFL Rumors

Julia StumbaughJun 17, 2026

Myles Garrett says he's not working to convince former Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald to come out of retirement because he wants Donald to make that decision on his own.

"I don't want to press him," Garrett said when asked if he'd had any contact with Donald around the 1:18:00 mark of Wednesday's New Heights podcast. "Because I want him to find that spark."

Garrett continued: "He walked away from the game feeling so fulfilled, just like, 'Man, I've done everything, I've won everything, I've beat everybody.' It's like, 'Alright, I don't need anything more.'

"If he looks up and he's like, 'Huh. I might need another one,' and he's like, 'MG, you wanna run it?' Sure, why not?"

Garrett previously said in an interview published June 5 by the Rams that he hadn't spoken with Donald yet but definitely expected "to talk soon" with the former Rams star.

"I don't know what his plans are and I won't pretend to know. I know a lot of people are excited and thrilled about the idea of him coming back," Garrett said earlier this month. "But just being able to talk to him, learn from him, I'll take all the advice I can. He's a great one for a reason, so just trying to get him in here talking to the guys."

Donald, who last played during the 2023 season, has been hinting at a potential return since the Rams acquired Garrett from the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason.

The Rams traded a package including linebacker Jared Verse and a first-round pick in order to bring in Garrett, who set the NFL's single-season sack record in 2025 with 23 in 17 games.

Donald, who recorded eight sacks during a 10th straight Pro Bowl season in his final NFL campaign, reportedly told NFL insider Jordan Schultz shortly after that deal he was "for sure flirting with the idea" of making a comeback.

Head coach Sean McVay, defensive coordinator Chris Shula and general manager Les Snead have since expressed interest in potentially bringing Donald back to the team.

Should Donald sign with the Rams this offseason, he would be joining a defensive line featuring Garrett and Byron Young on the edges around Kobie Turner, Poona Ford and Braden Fiske.

The Rams could hope this setup and the necessity of game-planning around Garrett could allow Donald to play in a more sheltered role than his last stint in the NFL if he comes back this fall.
