World Cup Hero Vozinha Tops 8M IG Followers, Besting Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Brunson, Wemby, More

Cabo Verde goalkeeper Vozinha now has over eight million Instagram followers after a phenomenal seven-save performance to preserve a 0-0 draw against World Cup favorite Spain on Monday.

Vozinha had about 50,000 followers before the match, but his Instagram following now eclipses some of the biggest stars playing in North American sports, including Jalen Brunson, Victor Wembanyama and Patrick Mahomes.

Spain (population of roughly 47.8 million) was second in FIFA's world rankings going into the match, while Cabo Verde (population of just under 530,000) was 67th.

Needless to say, a draw was an incredible result. That was largely due to the fantastic performance from the 40-year-old keeper, a veteran of 20 professional seasons.

One can argue it was one of the greatest goalkeeping performances you will ever see given his effort, the World Cup stakes and the steep odds Cabo Verde faced.

And yet Cabo Verde came away with its first-ever World Cup point and has some belief it can contend in Group H.

Cabo Verde now faces another tough challenge on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET in Houston when the team plays Uruguay.
