Christian Pulisic Injury Status Updated by USMNT Manager Pochettino Before Australia World Cup Match
After United States men's national team star Christian Pulisic exited Friday's game against Paraguay early with a calf injury, manager Mauricio Pochettino provided an update on the attacker.
Pochettino was brief in his update on Pulisic, telling reporters that he's doing "good" when asked about his status.
Pulisic explained after Friday's match that he had been kicked in the back of the leg.
"I just got a bit of a kick first half, so I'm really hoping that it's nothing," Pulisicย told reporters. "Taking a little bit of precaution today, but I'm hoping I'll be fine the next few days.
"Just the back of my leg, my calf area. But I've had similar things before, and I'm staying positive. I don't think it's anything at all."
Pochettino added that Pulisic had been kicked in the back of the leg in training earlier in the week, so pulling him from the game was mostly precautionary.
"He got a kick in the calf and at the end of the first half he started to feel tight and we didn't want to take any risks," Pochettino said. "It was difficult for him to walk. But [we] hope that it's not a big issue and he can be ready for the next one."
Pulisic trained separately from the rest of his teammates on Monday, doing lateral hops from one leg to the other, as well as single-leg jumps, according to The Athletic'sย Henry Bushnell.
Several of his USMNT teammates indicated that he'd be ready to go for Friday's match against Australia.
"Christian will be ready," midfielder Tyler Adams said. "Everyone, let's relax."
Added Forward Haji Wright: "He's good. He's been normal. He said it wasn't a big deal."
Pulisic played a big role in the United States' win over Paraguay, helping create the first goal of the game for the USMNTโan own-goal by Paraguayโas well as assisting on the second goal of the night.
Having him healthy for Friday's match would go a long way, and it sounds like he's close to being ready to go.
