Knicks Beat Wemby, Spurs After Historic Comeback, Box Score Stats & Highlights for NBA Finals Game 4
After 53 years, it might just be the New York Knicks' season.
Jalen Brunson and the Knicks overcame a 29-point deficit on Wednesday night, beating the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 to take a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals on OG Anunoby's game-winning tip-in.
It is the largest comeback in the history of the NBA Finals.
The Spurs went into the half with a 76-49 lead and looked poised to cruise to a series-evening victory. But the duo of Brunson (36 points, seven assists) and OG Anunoby (33 points) willed the Knicks to the improbable comeback, leaving them one victory away from finally ending their long title drought.
Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 24 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks, but like his teammates went ice cold in the second half, allowing the Knicks to slowly work themselves back into the game.
Nobody—absolutely, positively nobody—could believe what they just saw:
The Knicks may have a "team of destiny" vibe going right now, but the Spurs were a willing sidekick to the fairytale story in the second half, managing just 30 points. San Antonio is young, and their own tale seems to be in the opening chapters, but this has felt like a winnable series for them to this point and they simply haven't made the clutch plays needed to match the Knicks.
Whether the Spurs can recover from Wednesday's emotional gut punch remains to be seen. Game 5 will be in San Antonio on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET (ABC), so the Knicks will have a few days to dust themselves off and prepare for a comeback effort of their own.
But it would appear that no lead is safe against these Knicks.
