New Karl-Anthony Towns Contract Update After Knicks Take 2-0 Lead in NBA Finals vs. Wemby, Spurs
The New York Knicks are two wins away from their first championship in 53 years, but contract decisions are looming as the team looks to put away the San Antonio Spurs.
One such decision regards star center Karl-Anthony Towns, who is under contract next season and has a $61 million player option in 2027-28. According to The Athletic's Sam Amick, "there will still be a discussion to be had" about Towns' future with the Knicks, even if Towns helps them win the title.
With Towns being eligible for a four-year extension worth a combined $272 million, Amick noted that the Knicks will have to factor in second-apron concerns as they try to maintain the depth that has helped get them to the Finals.

Amick added that "the tone of those talks, given everything Towns has done here, should be far more flattering toward him this time around."
Towns has been a huge part of New York's Finals run, averaging 17.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.1 steals per game in 16 playoff games. He posted 21 points and 13 boards on Friday as the Knicks took a 2-0 lead against the Spurs.
Perhaps the most difficult part of putting together a championship-caliber team is keeping that squad together, and the Knicks will have a tall task navigating Towns' contract situation. For now, the focus is on winning two more games.
