Wemby, Spurs Will Have to Make History to Win NBA Finals vs. Knicks Amid 0-2 Series Deficit
The San Antonio Spurs have become just the third team in NBA history to lose Games 1 and 2 of the NBA Finals at home.
The Western Conference champions lost 105-95 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday and 105-104 in Game 2 on Friday to the New York Knicks, who are now just two wins away from their first championship since 1973.

The 1993 Phoenix Suns and the 1995 Orlando Magic are the other two teams who dropped Games 1 and 2 at home in the Finals.
The Suns, led by Charles Barkley, fought back to force a Game 6 against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls but lost 99-98 after John Paxson's game-winning jumper.
The Magic, led by Shaquille O'Neal, got swept against Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets.
The Spurs hope to avoid Phoenix and Orlando's fates.
There is precedent for an NBA team coming back from a 2-0 deficit to win the Finals.
In fact, it's happened five times: 1969 (Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Lakers), 1977 (Portland Trail Blazers vs. Philadelphia 76ers), 2006 (Miami Heat vs. Dallas Mavericks), 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Golden State Warriors) and 2021 (Milwaukee Bucks vs. Phoenix Suns).
San Antonio hopes to make it six, but unlike those teams, the Spurs are going on the road now.
Games 3 and 4 of the NBA Finals take place in New York at 8:30 p.m. ET on Monday and Wednesday, respectively.
