New Giannis Trade Rumors on Heat, Celtics Reveal Frontrunner to Land Star Ahead of NBA Free Agency
The Miami Heat are reportedly viewed within the NBA as the team most likely to strike a deal for Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason.
According to Sam Amick and Eric Nehm of The Athletic, there are "many people around the league" who expect the Heat to land Giannis in a blockbuster trade.
The Heat have been after Giannis for quite some time, and per Amick and Nehm, talks between the Heat and Bucks were so advanced leading up to this season's trade deadline that Miami was "optimistic a deal would get done."

Bold Free-Agency Predictions 🔮
Interest between Antetokounmpo and the Heat is apparently mutual with Amick and Nehm reporting that Giannis is "both intrigued and impressed with the organization's winning culture."
Although the Heat missed the playoffs this season with a 43-39 record, they reached the playoffs in each of the previous six seasons.
In addition to winning championships in 2006, 2012 and 2013, the Heat also made NBA Finals appearances in 2011, 2014, 2020 and 2023.
Given the 31-year-old Antetokounmpo's status as a 10-time All-Star, two-time NBA MVP, one-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, one-time NBA champion and one-time NBA Finals MVP, the Heat undoubtedly won't be alone in their pursuit of him.
According to Amick and Nehm, there are "indications that [Giannis is] very intrigued" by the idea of getting traded to the Boston Celtics.
Although they fell to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the playoffs this season, the Celtics had the second-best record in the Eastern Conference this season at 56-26.
After losing Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday and Al Horford last offseason, and with Jayson Tatum missing much of the season while recovering from a torn Achilles, most expected Boston to take a step back.
However, the Celtics enjoyed their fifth consecutive season with at least 50 wins and their 12th straight season in the playoffs.
With a core of Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and Payton Pritchard, the Celtics may be better built to absorb the loss of significant assets in a trade for Giannis than the Heat, who lack star power outside of Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro.
As noted by Amick and Nehm, Antetokounmpo has a "focus on getting back to title contention," and if that proves to be his main motivating factor, perhaps a move to Boston could appeal to him more than Miami.
