2026 NBA Draft Scouting Report for Darrion Williams

Jonathan WassermanJun 24, 2026

Darrion Williams entered this past season as one of the most accomplished players in college basketball and finished it as an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection at NC State.

The versatile 6'6" forward led the Wolfpack in scoring (14.0 ppg) while ranking second on the team in both rebounds (4.6) and assists (2.8).

Williams remained firmly on draft boards because of his combination of size, feel and offensive versatility. Evaluators viewed him as one of the more polished playmaking forwards in the second-round mix, particularly after he shot 40.4 percent from three-point range and 38.8 percent over his four-year college career.

His ability to impact games in multiple ways helped offset concerns about athletic upside.

At 6'6" and 225 pounds, Williams offers the strength and versatility teams look for in modern role players. His combination of shooting, passing and basketball IQ gives him a realistic pathway to earning minutes at the next level.

Realistic Pro Comparison: Kyle Anderson

Like Kyle Anderson, Williams projects as a versatile forward whose value comes from feel, decision-making and all-around contributions rather than elite athleticism.

Both players built their games around skill, pace and basketball intelligence. Williams' pathway to NBA minutes will likely depend on continuing to provide secondary playmaking, floor spacing and lineup versatility while compensating for physical limitations through instincts and execution.

Strengths

2 of 3
NC State v Texas

Strength 1: Basketball IQ

Williams stands out for his feel and understanding of the game. He processes situations quickly, makes smart decisions and rarely appears rushed. That level of basketball intelligence should help ease his transition to the NBA.

Strength 2: Proven Shooting Track Record

Williams strengthened his NBA case by knocking down 40.4 percent of his three-point attempts this season. More importantly, he shot 38.8 percent from deep across four collegiate seasons, suggesting the improvement is sustainable.

Strength 3: Positional Versatility

At 6'6" and 225 pounds, Williams can fill multiple roles depending on lineup needs. He has enough strength to battle bigger forwards while possessing the skill level to operate on the perimeter. That flexibility is appealing for teams seeking adaptable role players.

Strength 4: Decorated College Résumé

Williams produced at every stop during his college career. He was the Mountain West Freshman of the Year at Nevada before earning All-Big 12 honors twice at Texas Tech and All-ACC recognition at NC State.

Weaknesses

3 of 3
NC State v Texas

Weakness 1: Age

At 23 years old, Williams is older than many prospects projected in a similar draft range. Teams generally prefer younger players with more developmental upside. As a result, he may need to earn opportunities through immediate contributions rather than long-term projection.

Weakness 2: Scoring Efficiency Inside the Arc

Despite strong three-point shooting, Williams converted just 41.4 percent of his overall field-goal attempts. Finishing efficiently against length and athleticism has been an inconsistent part of his game.

Weakness 3: Defensive Ceiling

Williams forces steals at a good rate, but while he's generally a smart team defender, he may struggle guarding quicker wings and guards at the next level, since he lacks the foot speed associated with many high-level perimeter defenders.
