2026 NBA Draft Scouting Report for Alex Karaban

Reaching three Final Fours in four years has persuaded scouts to ignore Alex Karaban's flaws. He's earned the reputation for being a winner and using his limited but valuable skill set and intangibles to impact games.

Upside isn't the draw to Karaban. It's his fit and maturity that suggests he can join any rotation and find a way to contribute, whether as a shot-making role player or locker-room presence.

His game hasn't changed all that much over the last three years, yet interest in Karaban has slowly grown.

Shooting will be Alex Karaban's moneymaker offensively, the way it is for Sam Hauser.

These are wings with good size who are excellent off the ball, spotting up or hitting movement threes. Karaban may just offer more cutting, something he excelled at in Connecticut.

While neither can really create, they also rarely make mistakes or turn the ball over.

Strength 1: Off-ball shotmaking

Kababan ranked in the 99th percentile in off-screen usage, per Synergy Sports. He's very comfortable moving without the ball, catching, setting his feet and releasing. He wound up making 292 career threes, with the vast majority of them coming off spot-ups or movement.

Strength 2: Cutting

Every season, Karaban uses smart cutting to earn himself easy baskets. Despite lacking tools and explosion for finishing, he's always efficient at the rim because of his timing, angles and body control.

Karaban is a reliable decision-maker who helps bring poise and discipline to a lineup. Where he lacks in speed and athleticism, he makes up for with competitiveness.

Weakness 1: Athleticism

Karaban's athletic traits won't help him earn many easy baskets. He shot a poor 32.5 percent in transition, rarely even getting to attempt a fast-break two-pointer.

Weakness 2: Creating

He's had little success or experience handling the ball, which, for a wing, lowers his ceiling to speciality role player heights. He converted just eight drives to the basket all season.

Weakness 3: Defensive projection

Karaban is bound to have some trouble against quicker wings and bigger 4s defensively. Toughness and IQ will help, but it's difficult to picture him sticking with starting-caliber wing scorers for long stretches.
