New NBA Rumors Reveal Title Contender as Threat to Trade Up for Cameron Boozer, Caleb Wilson

Scott PolacekMay 27, 2026

The Oklahoma City Thunder are the reigning NBA champions and five wins away from winning back-to-back titles but reportedly could be aggressive when it comes to the opportunity to land Cameron Boozer or Caleb Wilson in the 2026 NBA draft.

"It's unclear whether this particular franchise feels the need to climb that high up the draft board, but rival clubs continue to mention a certain team in Oklahoma City as a strong potential trade-up candidate," NBA insider Jake Fischer reported Wednesday when discussing speculation about the Los Angeles Clippers perhaps trading out of the No. 5 pick.

"What's to stop them from packaging No. 12, 17 and [even] future picks to try to go get Boozer or Wilson?" an Eastern Conference executive asked.

OKC has those two first-round selections this year, as well as a number of future picks at their disposal.

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading a young and talented core that also includes Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren, the Thunder can be aggressive in their efforts to maximize what looks like a wide-open championship window.

They know they will likely have to deal with Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs for years to come seeing how they are already facing each other in the Western Conference Finals, so bolstering their frontcourt depth with more young and talented pieces would make sense.

And Boozer and Wilson provide just that.

Boozer was the Associated Press Player of the Year, the Naismith Award winner and the Wooden Award winner during his one collegiate season at Duke, while Wilson offers plenty of upside after he was a Second-Team All-American and a First-Team All-ACC selection in his one season at North Carolina.

The biggest question may be whether either is available at No. 5, as B/R's Jonathan Wasserman projected Boozer to go No. 3 and Wilson to go No. 4 in his most recent mock draft.

But the Thunder are looming as a potential trade threat even if they are focused on the immediate future of winning back-to-back championships.
