Cavs Floated as Potential Giannis Trade Landing Spot by Brian Windhorst amid NBA Rumors
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo via trade, per ESPN's Brian Windhorst on Tuesday's edition of NBA Today.
"I expect them to make some significant changes to it. I expect the Cavs to be mulling over...like I don't think it will be long before you start to hear Cavs attached to Giannis...would they consider entering that market? If they put Evan Mobley on the table...they drafted him to be another Giannis. What if they could turn him into Giannis with Harden and Donovan Mitchell on the roster."
The Cavs just lost to the New York Knicks in a four-game sweep in the Eastern Conference Finals by an average of 19.25 points. They did impress beforehand, winning 52 regular season games and beating the Toronto Raptors and then the No. 1 seed Detroit Pistons in seven games apiece in the playoffs.
However, the Cavs just endured a brutal postseason defeat to the Knicks, opening up questions about what's next and how the team can make the next step.
Meanwhile, the Bucks are pondering their future. The list of trade rumors and speculation on Antetokounmpo, a two-time NBA MVP, is endless. Antetokounmpo only has one year left on his contract if he declines his 2027-28 player option, so it might make sense for the player and team to part ways at this point.
Assuredly, the Bucks should have numerous suitors for Antetokounmpo's services if they seriously try to engineer a trade at this point. The Cavs could make sense, as they clearly need to make some moves to take a leap forward and emerge as an elite contender.
There will be great competition, but it appears the Cavs could at least be in consideration here as the trade watch for Antetokounmpo continues.
